21st Century Teaching
As teachers, it will be near impossible to control all of the social media that our students will come across. Being a teacher, I will need to influence them and teach my students how to use technology and social media appropriately. In the right way, I believe technology and social media can be used to teach in the classroom. It is great for all different kinds of learners and keeps children active. For some students, it makes learning easier, more comfortable, and it brings out their creative side. Depending on how technology and social media are taught and used can either make or break a classroom.
I believe the 21st century learner expects to use technology in the classroom. Rarely now a days, you do not see a SMARTboard in a classroom. Children are starting to use laptops and e-readers in the classroom as well. As a teacher, I expect my students will want me to integrate the SMARTboard, e-readers, and laptops as much as I can because it is getting almost more comfortable for them. I would hope they expect me to teach them about self-control and a safe way to use social media as well because not many teachers or adults do that. I believe, that is why we have a problem with social media today. I plan on engaging technology in my classroom. When a child is getting the privilege to use technology in the classroom, it not only gives them responsibility, and teaches them how to share, it makes the student feel special about getting the privilege to use technology in the classroom. I do not see anything wrong with engaging technology in the classroom as long as the teacher explains social media and how to use it and not abuse it.
